Position Description The Instructional Technologist III is a senior-level professional who provides advanced expertise in the integration, support, and strategy of instructional technologies to enhance teaching and learning. This role operates with significant autonomy, leads projects, influences policy and workflow, and may supervise or mentors others.
Essential Job Functions Provide timely technical support and customer service to faculty, staff, and students regarding the Learning Management System (LMS) and associated educational technologies. Monitor the departmental support ticketing system, document all interactions, and ensure issues are resolved or escalated according to service level agreements (SLAs). Maintain a customer-centric approach to troubleshooting. Serve as a strategic partner to faculty, instructional designers, IT and academic leadership on instructional technology initiatives. Lead the selection, testing, deployment and maintenance of key instructional systems (e.g., LMS upgrades, third-party integrations, multimedia platforms). Develop, deliver and manage advanced training, workshops and documentation for faculty and staff; this includes creating self-help resources, knowledge-base content, multimedia tutorials. Provide leadership for support processes: establish workflows, manage escalations, coordinate vendors/partners, monitor metrics and service levels. Lead or participate in large scale projects: e.g., institutional migrations, adoption of new technologies (AI tools, analytics, adaptive learning), departmental change management. Ensure that instructional technologies meet quality, accessibility (e.g., ADA, WCAG), user-experience and learning-outcome standards. Supervise, mentor or support more junior instructional technologists or student assistants. Analyze data and report on adoption, usage, learning outcomes and process effectiveness; make recommendations for continuous improvement. Stay current with emerging instructional technologies, pedagogical trends and best practices.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, Education, or a related field. 5+ years in instructional technology, preferably in higher education or a learning environment. Demonstrated experience with learning management systems (LMS), instructional technologies, multimedia production or learning platforms, and training/support of faculty/staff. Strong skills in project management, communication, interpersonal collaboration, organization and problem-solving. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences or related field. Experience supervising or managing teams/staff. Experience leading large scale instructional technology projects (uplifts, migrations, integrations). Experience with advanced technologies: AI in learning, learning analytics, data-driven decision making, adaptive learning technologies. Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA), quality assurance frameworks (e.g., Quality Matters), universal design for learning (UDL). Experience in higher education context (faculty consulting, course development, hybrid/online instruction). Instructional design knowledge combined with technical ability (multimedia, authoring tools, integrations).

Accessibility & Quality Assurance: Ensure instructional materials and technologies meet standards and best practices. Communication & Collaboration: Effectively partner with faculty, IT, instructional design, and leadership; translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences. Mentorship & Team Leadership: Guide junior staff, foster growth, build culture of support and innovation. Working Conditions: Full-time. Office/hybrid or remote working possibility. May require occasional evening or weekend work for trainings, project deadlines or system upgrades. Supervisory responsibilities or team coordination may include meeting, mentoring, and performance oversight.
