Performs responsible supervisory and patrol work involving the security of University property or may be assigned specifically to detective investigative work. Usual duties involve the active supervision of the police personnel assigned to the Sergeant on a rotating shift. When specially assigned, a detective in this classification performs follow up investigations of crimes, presents crime prevention educational programs, and maintains contacts with other law enforcement, campus and community entities. Supervises varied security personnel.

Fifteen semester college hours from an accredited college or university and: three years experience as a Texas Tech Police Officer or five years experience as a commissioned Police Officer. Applicants must meet commissioning standards for Texas Peace Officers as mandated by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
