About TTU Multicultural Requirement

MEMORANDUM

DATE:   June 18, 2025

TO:   Advisors

FROM:   Ron Hendrick, Provost & Senior Vice President

RE:   Multicultural Graduation Requirement

Texas Tech University will discontinue the multicultural graduation requirement, effective immediately. This decision aligns with updated compliance and expectations around state policy.

A committee will be convened in the coming months to explore potential alternatives to graduation requirements.

Students who have already completed the multicultural requirement will retain credit for it, and it will continue to count toward their degree.

Many multicultural-designated courses also fulfill other degree requirements. In cases where the removal of this requirement results in a three-hour shortfall on a student’s degree plan, that credit may be satisfied with an elective of their choice. Students still need to meet the hours approved for their degree.

I recognize the importance of this information as you support students with class registration during Red Raider Orientation. We will inform students of this change at the start of the academic year.

Your continued dedication to supporting our students is appreciated. We will share updates as the committee's work progresses.
