RE: Important Reminders Regarding Syllabi Requirements

This information was originally planned to be shared in an academic leadership meeting scheduled for Thursday, was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. This also serves as a follow-up to the Chancellor’s message.

I want to ensure that each of you receives these important reminders, particularly regarding course syllabi.

As we’ve seen at other institutions recently, this is an opportunity to remind you of these guidelines. They are in place to support student success and ensure Texas Tech remains in compliance with HB 2504.

Update Your Syllabi

  • Review each course syllabus and remove any outdated or noncompliant
language. Guidance and required syllabus statements can be found on the TLPDC website. The recommended practice is to link to the official resources on the university website rather than copying and pasting content.

Upload Undergraduate Course Syllabi as Required

  • Post your undergraduate course syllabus in Digital Measures, which will
automatically upload your syllabus to the Public Access to Course Information portal, as mandated by law.

Align Course Content with the Syllabus

  • Per OP 32.06, section 1, planned course content must be reflected in the
syllabus through, at minimum, the course outline and the expected learning outcomes from the course. Methods of assessing outcomes and the criteria for grade determination are also required components of all syllabi, per OP 32.06.
  • The syllabus functions as a commitment between the university, the academic unit, the faculty and the student. Academic units or areas within units should regularly review syllabi to ensure currency and to confirm compliance with any state requirements.

Failure to follow these requirements places the university out of compliance with state law and may result in corrective measures at the unit or college level.

If you have questions, please submit them via this form.

Thank you for your attention to these details.
