Position 1: PhD Research Assistantship - Precision Agriculture and Remote Sensing

Position description:

The Crop Ecophysiology and Precision Agriculture Lab at Texas Tech University (TTU) is seeking applications for a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) position for pursuing Ph.D. studies with research focus on remote sensing and data analytics for precision agriculture and high-throughput plant phenotyping. We conduct exciting research in remote sensing and data analytics to investigate the factors contributing to the sustainability of agricultural systems, including spatial and temporal variability of plant growth and soil properties, crop stresses, crop disease, and crop productivity. The GRA is expected to produce project reports, present research findings in conferences, and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree (or expected graduation with MS in next 12 months) in agronomy, crop science, soil science, crop physiology, agricultural engineering, or environmental science.
  • Knowledge and skills in remote sensing and digital image analysis; 
  • Excellent oral and writing skills in English, especially scientific writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an international, interdisciplinary team;
  • Motivated and driven;
  • Willingness to perform field work.

 Position 2: Postdoctoral Research Associate 

Position description: The Crop Ecophysiology and Precision Agriculture Laboratory at Texas Tech University (TTU) is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position with research focus on application of remote sensing in plant phenotyping and precision agriculture, especially using unmanned aerial systems for crop stress assessment, plant disease detection, and precision water and nutrient management. We conduct exciting research in remote sensing and data analytics to investigate the factors contributing to the sustainability of agricultural systems, including spatial and temporal variability of plant growth and soil properties, crop stresses, crop disease, and crop productivity. The Postdoc is expected to assist in proposal development, produce project reports, present research findings in conferences, and publish peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals. This position is a one-year appointment with possibility of extension to more years.


Requirements: A Ph.D. in agronomy, crop science, soil science, crop physiology, agricultural engineering, or environmental science.

  • Knowledge, experience, and proficiency in the areas of remote sensing and digital image processing;
  • Strong statistical analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scientific writing.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an international, interdisciplinary team across institutes; excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Motivated and driven;
