Dr. Irish Pabuayon

Background

Dr. Irish Pabuayon received her MS and PhD degrees in Plant and Soil Science from Texas Tech University. Prior to joining Texas Tech faculty, Dr. Pabuayon served as postdoctoral research associate within Texas Tech’s Department of Plant and Soil Science. In addition, she worked as an Assistant Professor of Agronomy based at the Louisiana State University AgCenter H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station.

Dr. Pabuayon received her bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of the Philippines – Los Baños. She also worked as a field crop researcher and soil chemist at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines.

Research Interests

Dr. Pabuayon’s research focuses on field-based projects on whole-plant physiology, irrigation management in water-deficit system, carbon and nutrient partitioning, fertilizer management, high-throughput phenotyping, and sustainable crop production. The primary goal of her research is to deepen the understanding of how resource use and management strategies, integrated with new technologies and genetic advancements, can be fine-tuned to improve the efficiency, productivity, quality, and profitability of cotton and other relevant field crops in Texas.
