Teaching Turfgrass Science
In the High School Classroom

Do you know a teacher who is interested in incorporating turfgrass management into their curriculum? Turfgrass management is a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States with steadily growing demand for technically trained management personnel, and an early introduction to the field could open a world of career possibilities to high school students.

Our Teacher Professional Development Workshop on Turfgrass Management is an opportunity for ag teachers to access TEKS-aligned curriculum, learn professional turf management tools, and explore turfgrass careers.

About the Workshop

This winter's Teacher Professional Development Workshop on Turfgrass Management will be held in conjunction with the Texas Turfgrass Association Winter Conference in Corpus Christi, TX on December 16 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The first half of the day will include presentations and seminars to build general knowledge of turfgrass science and career opportunities for participants. After lunch at the American Bank Center, the Corpus Christi Country Club will give us a tour of their facility and equipment. We hope to also have some different demonstrations and outside individuals coming in to speak and introduce new topics to teachers at our event. All participants will receive:

  • a travel stipend
  • 7 Professional Development credit hours
  • TEKS ½ Turfgrass Management curriculum
  • hands-on activities which can be implemented in the classroom

When: December 16 | 9am - 4pm

Where: Corpus Christi, Texas

But wait, there's more...

In addition to our teacher-specific event, The TTA is offering teachers an opportunity to stay Tuesday, December 17 for a full day of educational seminars, a turfgrass industry tradeshow to network with turfgrass professionals across Texas. These relationships could be pivotal in building a strong course and opens up great opportunities to allow students more opportunities for SAE’s in your local area.

You are welcome to pay for a 1-day registration on-site on the day of the event, or you can sign up for a 1-day registration now ($125):
