First Year Labs
Our lab courses bridge the theory and concepts from lectures practical application, focusing on learning and practicing essential lab skills and data analysis. The general chemistry labs (1107 & 1108) help prepare students for practicing measurements and laboratory techniques used across biology, physics, and kinesiology, as well as for future lab courses and research at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
Laboratory Safety
Safety is our top priority in our chemistry labs. In the first-year labs we utilize the American Chemical Societys (ACS) RAMP framework to protect our students. We minimize risk through experimental design, educate our students about potential hazards, and provide training to prepare for emergencies. As part of this preparation, all students in the first-year labs must complete an online safety module based on the RAMP program prior to beginning experiments. More information will be provided to students once classes begin.
Additionally, all students wear lab coats and goggles (PPE) while conducting experiments in our laboratories. Our local undergraduate ACS sell PPE during the first couple of weeks of labs at a very economical price – dates and times will be announced during the first week of classes.
