CMLL Passport Party

Joining 2022 Texas Tech Raider Welcome, CMLL hosted a Passport Party on August 22 to welcome 75+ students who travelled through the world of CMLL.  While sipping on iced coffee, students worked their way around to each table where they received a stamp in their passports and discovered the diverse languages and cultures offered at Texas Tech University.  The language programs set up colorful culture filled tables that included interactive games, treats and activities in addition to information about how to major, minor and study abroad.

Arts & Sciences Day

RR event

Arts & Sciences Day took place on the south lawn of Holden Hall on August 31.  As faculty and advisors gathered around tables representing their respective programs, TTU students also gathered to learn about them.   Even as the clouds accumulated overhead and much-needed rain descended on the crowd, the spirit of enthusiasm for the start of the semester was not dampened. CMLL faculty and advisors provided information about the twelve languages offered in the department, language clubs, and language-focused majors and minors offered while having fun playing the spinning wheel of culture, flags, language, and monuments with students.

Tables were set up for them to take a sample of what each program has to offer. They all experienced 3 mini-lessons from different languages.

They were served lunch. Performances in the Qualia were the crème on top that crowned the visit. The teachers and the students absolutely loved the event and are excited to come back next year!

CMLL volunteers and staff rallied together to set up the tables, organize the mini-lessons, and order and serve lunch.   Special thanks to Chris Wright for putting into motion the planning, to Linley Melhem for taking care of the final details, and to Céfiro and the CMLL Ambassadors for their generous help
