Distinguished Engineers Award Luncheon 2019

The Texas Tech University Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering named Dr. Kancheepuram Gunalan and Larry Ludlum as recipients of the 2019 Distinguished Engineer Award on April 12, 2019.

The Distinguished Engineer Award was established during the 1966–1967 academic year to recognize the most outstanding former students of the Whitacre College of Engineering. Since that time, 230 former students of the Whitacre College of Engineering have received this honor. Recipients of the award must be distinguished in their profession, an inspiration to their peers, and have demonstrated a continuing interest in areas outside the field of engineering.

3rd Annual Junkyard Wars - 2017

All Engineering Majors welcome! Sign up inside the ASME office in the Mechanical Engineering Building March 20 - 24, 2017. You can sign up as an individual or a group (teams will be formed with 10-15 people). Each team is given a mentor (industry professional) for help and guidance. The junk is brought in and piled up. Teams are given the challenge the morning of the competition with less than one day to build. The second day, each team competes for the best time and accuracy to complete the challenge. You don't want to miss this fun opportunity!

CB&I Advanced Prototyping & Manufacturing Facility - Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at Texas Tech University debuted its new CB&I Advanced Prototyping and Manufacturing Facility, which will give students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering the most advanced technology and facility to enhance their education and experience.

The renovations were made possible by a $1.6 million gift from CB&I, a leading energy industry technology and infrastructure provider.

TTU WCOE Hosts Steve Wolf's Science in the Movies!

The Texas Tech University Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering hosted thousands of third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students from across the South Plains, who got to experience science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through the eyes of movie stuntman Steve Wolf.

Wolf, a stunt and special effects coordinator for such blockbuster movies as "Cast Away," "The Firm," "The Client" and "The Jungle Book," presented his show "Science in the Movies" on Friday, October 7th, 2016 at the Lubbock City Bank Auditorium.

Sponsors of the event include the Whitacre College of Engineering, the College of Education; the Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity & Community Engagement; the Office of the Provost and the Office of the President.

eGIRL Engineering Camp - Get Into Real Learning!

eGIRL (Get Into Real Learning), is a summer camp targeted to female high school juniors and seniors with an interest in pursuing a career in engineering. This camp will provide an opportunity to spend a week as a Texas Tech Engineering student. Campers are introduced to engineering concepts and gain experience with classroom lectures, hands-on group projects, and campus life. Each day is structured as a current engineering student. Campus resources such as admission requirements, financial aid, student support, and many more are highlighted throughout the week. Campers reside in a residence hall on campus to bring the campus experience full-circle. This week brings all campers a firsthand insight into the world of engineering and Texas Tech University. TTU Engineers Week

Engineers Week is a time to celebrate engineering. As a part of National Engineers Week, the Whitacre College of Engineering faculty, staff, and students participate in events that highlight the fun and diversity in engineering. Past events have included: Pink Engineering Day, engineering outreach events and seminars, student organization fairs
and the Order of the Engineer ceremony. The Order of the Engineer is an association for graduate and professional engineers in the United States that emphasizes pride and responsibility in the engineering profession. Texas Tech students join the order by taking an oath to abide by a code of ethics called The Obligation of an Engineer. This ceremony is an integral part of Engineers Week.

Wind-to-Wheels (NAE 'Engineering for You 3' Video Contest Submission)

Energy drives the global economy and West Texas is endowed with an abundance of clean and renewable energy sources. This presents a great opportunity for integration and demonstration of a clean energy future. Texas Tech University provides a near ideal environment to investigate the technical and economic feasibility of integrating wind generated electricity with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) fleet in a campus-based vehicle-to-grid (V2G) system.


Energize to Globalize - Costa Rica (Society of Women Engineers)

Society of Woman Engineers at Texas Tech University collaborated with students from the University of Costa Rica to host Energize to Globalize on March 18, 2016, in San José, Costa Rica. The event consisted of three engineering workshops to teach high school students about engineering. During the week of the event, the Texas Tech students learned about the history and culture of Costa Rica from host students and their families.
