Position Description Primary Focus: Advanced data manipulation, system interation, automation, and complez analysis. The Research Data Manager II is a senior-level technical contributor responsible for designing and implementing data management solutions. This role moves beyond running reports to building the infrastructure that generates them. The individual will utilize advanced programming (SQL, Python, R) to automate data retrieval, manage complex database integrations between the SIS and LMS, and design dynamic dashboards for decision-making.
Essential Job Functions Advanced Data Analytics & Engineering (30%): Write complex SQL queries and scripts to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from disparate sources. Automate repetitive reporting processes using Python or R. Design and maintain relational database schemas to support departmental research. System Integration & Architecture (25%): Lead the technical integration of tools in both vendor and local systems. Troubleshoot API connections and data transfer errors systems. Serve as the technical lead for system upgrades, ensuring data integrity is maintained during migrations. Visualization & Business Intelligence (20%): Design and publish interactive dashboards (using PowerBI, Tableau, or similar) that allow leadership to explore student data trends independently. Translate complex datasets into visual narratives for non-technical stakeholders. Project Leadership (15%): Lead data-centric projects from conception to deployment. Define project scope, requirements, and timelines for new software implementations. Manage data projects for the department. Operations & Mentorship (10%): Serve as a point of escalation for complex data discrepancies found by Tier I staff. Mentor junior staff on best practices for data hygiene and basic scripting.
Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree + 7 years of related experience (OR Master's degree + 5 years). Required Skills: Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python/R. Proven experience with ETL processes and data visualization tools (PowerBI/Tableau). Deep understanding of FERPA and data security protocols. Preferred: Master's degree in Data Science, Information Systems, or Statistics. Experience administering SQL servers.
