| Position Description | Instructor & Academic Success Coach supports first-year student transition, persistence, academic achievement, and career exploration through instruction, coaching, advising, and individualized student support. This role teaches freshman seminar courses focused on college success, major exploration, and career planning while providing proactive academic success coaching to help students develop effective learning strategies, clarify educational and career goals, and engage with campus resources. The position plays a critical role in improving student retention, academic confidence, degree progression, and student success outcomes. |
| Essential Job Functions | * Teach Raider Ready courses using approved curriculum and materials to deliver engaging, student-centered instruction that supports student transition, academic success, and persistence at Texas Tech. * Facilitate learning experiences that support students in navigating college expectations, academic rigor, and institutional culture. * Develop students' foundational academic skills and reinforce behaviors essential for college success, including time management, effective study strategies, and goal setting. * Guide students in connecting with Texas Tech resources and the Red Raider experience to support their academic progress, personal development, and long-term success. * Integrate major & career exploration and decision-making activities that align academic pathways with student interests and workforce readiness. * Promote student engagement, belonging, and retention by fostering a supportive classroom community and encouraging campus involvement. * Collaborate with Raider Ready staff, advisors, and peer leaders to coordinate support and intervention strategies that enhance student success and retention. * Serve as a mentor to students by providing academic, life, and career coaching that supports their transition, engagement, and long-term success, while fostering meaningful connections to campus resources and opportunities. * Maintain accurate records of student attendance, engagement, and academic progress using Raider Success Hub (RSH) to document interactions, manage appointments, conduct outreach, and support coordinated communication, early intervention, and continuity of care across university partners. |
| Qualifications | Required Qualifications * Master's degree in higher education, education, counseling, or a related field (required for instruction of for-credit coursework). * Experience teaching or training in educational or student development settings. * Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications * Experience teaching a first-year seminar, student success, or college readiness course. * Knowledge of student development theory and retention practices. * Familiarity with university student support services and resources. |
