Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required. Two years experience working in a laboratory animal facility, animal research studies with animals or a veterinary hospital; or B.S. degree in Zoology, Biology or Animal Science. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to communicate regularly with research investigators and laboratory personnel. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to figure dosages of medication for a variety of research animals. Reasoning Ability: The ability to perform work of considerable complexity which involves working independently toward general results, devising new work methods, interpreting policy or meeting new conditions necessitating a high degree of ingenuity, initiative and judgment. Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word and Excel. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certification as an Assistant Lab Animal Technician (ALAT) through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS). Incumbent is required to pass the ALAT exam through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science within 12 months of hire date and the LAT exam within 24 months of hire date.
