Dietetic Internship Site Locations

Site Information

Texas Tech University's Dietetic Internship has one full time pathway for all sites.

Texas Tech University Dietetic Internship Handbook

There are four sites in our dietetic internship.

  • Lubbock - 10 interns
  • Amarillo - 4 interns
  • Midland/Odessa area - 4 interns
  • San Angelo - 4 interns

An applicant can apply to just one specific location or to all locations. All of these sites are matched during the spring match using Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Services (DICAS) and D&D Digital Online Dietetic Internship Matching Service. Of special note: on DICAS you will apply to Texas Tech University, but not to each specific site we have. Once you go to D&D Digital you can then rank your site choices. You don't have to rank all sites that are associated with our internship. You will pick and rank sites that you feel would work the best for you; that might be just one site, two sites, three, or all four sites.

Internship Facilities

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, not all rotation sites listed may be available at the current time.

West Texas encompasses a large geographic area and each of the four sites for our program are medical hubs, with patients coming to these facilities from as far away as 100-150 miles. Lubbock has patients from Texas and eastern New Mexico. Amarillo has patients from eastern New Mexico and Oklahoma. Midland/Odessa, with the oil boom in that area, is receiving patients from eastern New Mexico and especially from the south of those two cities. Summarized information about these sites and their main medical facilities are listed below. These sites are eager to provide supervised experiences for dietetic interns and have the patient census and high acuity care to accommodate the Medical Nutrition Therapy focus of our dietetic internship.

Rotation Site Information

Dietetic interns get to experience many sites and preceptors. With the Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) concentration for our program, approximately 19-20 weeks are allocated for various rotation sites that have an MNT focus, so approximately half of the internship is allocated to the concentration area. There are approximately 9-10 weeks of community rotations and 6-10 weeks of food management. Weeks vary slightly between sites but interns get good quality experiences at all sites
