Program Overview
Texas Tech College of Media & Communications
in Tokyo & Kyoto, Japan
Our study abroad program offers up to nine hours of credit in the College of Media and Communication across two majors: Communication Studies and Creative Media Industries.
COMS 3332: Intercultural Communication will offer students the chance to think about cultural difference and to strategize about how to listen and how to be understood.
CMI 3377: Designing for Play is a part of the Game Design and Culture Certificate and will give students the chance to think about pop culture, video games, table top board games, and theme parks in an international context.
COMS 3320: Media, Technology, and Society in Japan is a special topics course that is cross-listed with CMI 3375: Digital Gaming Culture. It will also count towards the Game Design and Culture Certificate and will help students think about how technology in the Japanese context acts as a vector for culture, from emojis to memes to Tamagotchis and mobile games.
Our program will visit Tokyo and Kyoto and will feature visits to:
-Edo Museum
-Imperial Park
-Akihabara
-Shibuya
-Kyoto River Walk
-Sagano Bamboo Forest
-Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea
