The Steps to Study Abroad
Welcome to your Study Abroad journey! Follow these steps to successfully submit your application. We recommend you begin this process at least one year prior to the term you plan to study abroad.
Be sure you're eligible to study abroad first! The Study Abroad Office is here to help - contact a Counselor if you have questions about getting started.
Be sure to read the steps below thoroughly before you start your application.
Step 1
- Research program options and speak to your Academic Advisor and loved ones about your interest in studying abroad
- If you are in the Rawls College of Business, attend the Center for Global Engagement's First Step Session
Step 2
- Choose a program
- If you have chosen a faculty-led program or TTU Center in Sevilla program, move to step 6
- If you have chosen a direct enroll/affiliate, internship, research, or service program, move to step 3
Step 3
- Start your application and complete the advising questionnaire in its entirety.
Step 4
- Schedule an appointment with the appropriate Advisor for your region of interest using Raider Success Hub. The Advisor cannot accept the appointment until they confirm that you have completed your advising questionnaire.
Step 5
- Meet with your Study Abroad Advisor or Engineering Program Manager
Step 6
- Complete all application requirements before the deadline: Upload passport scan, read and electronically sign materials, attend any required sessions
Step 7
- After approved, follow post-acceptance requirements: medical clearance, pre-departure orientation, and more. If you are doing a direct enroll/affiliate, internship, research, or service program, be sure to apply to your host program or university.
For students unsure of which program they are interested in, please follow the steps below:
- Research program options. Think about why you want to study abroad. Your 'why' should lay the foundation for choosing the best program. Ask yourself the following
three questions:
- How do you hope to use the experience for the rest of your academic career? Do you hope to obtain courses towards your major, minor, electives, or more?
- What skills do you hope to gain while studying abroad for your professional career? Do you hope to gain critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and more? Look into an internship, research, or service/shadowing abroad program for hands-on experience.
- What do you hope to get out of your study abroad, personally? Do you hope to travel to your heritage country or meet new people?
Keeping these questions in mind while looking through the program offerings will help you choose a program that will help you meet your goals.
- Attend walk-in advising with the Study Abroad Office. We encourage you to have an idea of your top 3 programs when attending walk-in advising.
- After attending walk-in advising, you should have identified your top program.
In the meantime, be sure you have a valid passport. If you need to, apply for a passport. Did you know TTU has a passport processing office right here on campus?!!
