Food Science Undergraduate Degree Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Food Science -- Science Option

This option provides education in food science and technology, and the basic sciences to prepare students for work in the food industry or in preparation for study towards an advanced degree. This option is excellent pre-professional degree in preparation for medical, pharmacy, dental, veterinary medicine, allied health, law, and graduate school. Students in this option meet the requirements for an 18-hour minor in chemistry. An internship or research experience is an integral component of the degree requirements.

Food Science - Science Option

Note: Pre-professional Students should take BIOL 1403, 1404 and MBIO 3401 to meet requirements for medical, vet, pharmacy, dental, or allied health schools.

Bachelor of Science in Food Science -- Industry Option 

This option provides education in food science and technology to enable students to enter food production and processing, and related industries. Option provides flexibility to pursue an 18-hour minor in business, nutritional sciences or other complementary areas to enhance preparation for the industry placement. Students receive instruction in a variety of food commodities emphasizing food microbiology and safety, food analysis and chemistry, and food engineering. Common areas of employment include production management, quality control/quality assurance, research and development, technical sales, and regulation. An internship or research experience is an integral component of the degree requirements.
