CMLL hosted a Passport Party on August 23rd as an official event during Raider Welcome 2017. Upon arriving at the Passport Party, visitors – incoming freshman at TTU – received a "passport" in which they gathered "stamps" from the various booths representing CMLL divisions: American Sign Language, Arabic, Classics, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Visitors learned about the academic programs and student organizations housed in CMLL, enjoyed international treats, mingled with faculty and students, and won door prizes. The Study Abroad Office was present to answer students' questions about obtaining a real passport in order to study abroad with CMLL's faculty-led programs.

New and current TTU students made their way to the south lawn of Holden Hall during Raider Welcome Week 2 for the 2017 Arts & Sciences Day. On August 30th more than 1200 students meandered their way through the maze of tables representing numerous departments in Arts & Sciences and TTU student organizations. CMLL faculty, advisors and students engaged in meaningful dialogue with students about language programs, clubs, departmental events and the value of knowing languages.

Texas Tech Preview Day & Resource Fair

Lubbock and South Plain high school students spent the morning of October 9 previewing Texas Tech University. During the resource fair, prospective students engaged in informative conversations with CMLL faculty and advisors about the exceptional language programs offered at Texas Tech. Amazed by the twelve languages from which they can choose to study at Texas Tech, students and parents were equally amazed to learn how language skills add a valueable job skill set in a global market.

Texas Tech Major & Minor Fair

CMLL faculty, academic advisors and student peers distributed CMLL program information to students interested in learning languages at the annual Major and Minor Fair on October 19, 2017. Students who were exploring majors and minors offered in CMLL engaged in meaningful conversations regarding the variety of language majors and minors offered at TTU, the excellent CMLL faculty-led study abroad summer programs and the exciting CMLL language clubs and societies!

Language & Culture Day 2017

On November 3rd, CMLL hosted Language & Culture Day. Faculty, staff, and graduate students collaborated to make this annual event a success. Céfiro, the Spanish graduate student association housed in CMLL, orchestrated an exhibition of cultural displays to showcase the many languages and cultures taught in CMLL. Dr. Alec Cattell coordinated the visit of students from regional high schools who also participated in the event, competing for prizes in three categories: Culture (cultural display tables), Creative (dance, music, and skit performances), and Literature (recitations of poems and other literary texts).
