About the Grant
Gloria Lyerla worked for more than 30 years at the Texas Tech University Libraries in several capacities. Her dedication to the support of research on the Texas Tech University campus and throughout Texas was an inspiration to her colleagues. Her leadership within the Interlibrary Loan area brought state-wide and national recognition to Texas Tech. In memory of her years of service, a fund has been established by friends and family to support Texas Tech University researchers in their efforts to acquire from rare and/or difficult to retrieve materials.
Purpose of the Program
The purpose of the Research Travel Grant program is to assist Texas Tech University researchers in meeting the costs of travel to research collections of libraries, archives, museums, or other repositories throughout the world. Since its creation, the Lyerla grant has evolved into a highly competitive program which receives significantly more applications than can be supported.
Amount of Grant
Two successful applicants will receive an award of up to $750.00 in a single payment. The award must be used for the exclusive purpose of helping to defray the researchers' travel expenses.
Deadline
The priority deadline for application is February 28, 2024.
Applications submitted until Sunday, March 31, 2024, may still be considered, pending any further availability of funds.
Grant Period
The grant is intended to be used in the twelve months immediately following the award announcement.
Tax Status of Awards
The Tax Reform Act of 1986 will govern the taxation of awards. Any questions regarding income tax matters should be addressed to the Internal Revenue Service.
