Librarian Partnerships

The Online Learning & OER Librarian will partner with you in a variety of ways.  Click each heading below to see details about each type of librarian partnership.

Embedded Librarian

Embed the Online Learning & OER Librarian directly in your Canvas course.  The librarian can:

  • Provide support to both instructors and students.
  • Create customized tutorials and guides for assignments.
  • Answer questions about research and library resources.
  • Work with instructors to incorporate library resources.

Research Assignment Consultations

Many courses rely on research projects or papers as assignments throughout the course. The Online Learning & OER Librarian can review your research assignments and provide resources to support your students. The librarian can also identify which research skills your students will need before beginning the assignment.

For example, do you request that your student use peer-reviewed, scholarly sources?

What do your students need to know before they begin:

  • What is peer-review?
  • What is a scholarly source?
  • Where do I find a scholarly source?

Professional Development

The Online Learning & OER Librarian can provide workshops for your team, department, or school! Sessions can range from 10-90 minutes and include topics such as:

  • Open Educational Resources: OER are instructional materials that are freely available to use and/or modify. A workshop on OER would include an introduction to OER and how to think about replacing classroom materials or a full textbook with OER! This can be an introductory session, or it can be a working session.
  • Teaching Information Literacy: Many courses rely on research, so the librarian will create workshops that teach your team how to embed information literacy (research) instruction into their courses. Information includes: steps to introduce and teach research projects, incorporating research skills into courses, etc.
  • Using AI: Whether or not you permit student use of AI in your course, the librarian can provide an overview of the proper uses of Generative AI tools.
  • Other: You can collaborate with the librarian to create a training session that meets the needs of your instructors!

Course Instruction

The Online Learning & OER Librarian can co-teach or create lessons on topics related to digital information skills. Instructional sessions can range from 10 - 90 minutes: whatever fits your schedule and meets the needs of your students. Most sessions will be interactive and allow students to experience and experiment with the topic.

Resource Curation

Librarians are experts at locating resources! Partner with your librarian to locate high-quality, reliable resources for your classroom within our vast library collection.

Syllabus Analysis

The librarian can examine your syllabus and identify areas of library/classroom partnerships.  By analyzing syllabi, the librarian can improve library services to support students and instructors. Analysis can provide:

  • Finding ways for library instruction integration.
  • Discussing ways to incorporate library resources into a course.
  • Identification of classes that would benefit from an embedded library workshop. (For example, instruction in library databases before a research assignment.)
  • Discussing pacing for research assignments and identify where the librarian can support you.
