Health care

Lubbock's health care industry employs more than 17,000 people. Anchored by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), a sister institution to Texas Tech University, and its teaching hospital, University Medical Center (UMC), Lubbock is a medical hub offering state-of-the-art technology and the most comprehensive medical services between Dallas and Phoenix.

UMC is the primary teaching hospital for TTUHSC. Through the partnership with TTUHSC, the health system produces groundbreaking research and innovative technology, including a number of nationally-recognized clinical trials in breast and prostate cancer. UMC also houses the Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center, the only one of its kind between Denver and Dallas.

Covenant Health is the largest health care institution in the region and offers numerous Centers of Excellence in areas of cardiac, orthopedic, neuroscience, pediatric and women's services, as well as cancer research and treatment.
