Veteran and Active Military Horticultural Therapy Kits
About Horticultural Therapy
Horticultural Therapy is a complementary alternative therapeutic method in which participants interact actively and passively with plants to help rehabilitate their social, cognitive, psychological, and physiological needs.
While there is promising research in horticultural therapy and its benefits for military members, it is severely lacking.
About the Horticultural Therapy Kit Project for Veterans and Active Military
Our veterans and active military are a population of people in which we would like to make horticultural therapy more accessible. These horticultural therapy kits were a part of a research study in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at Texas Tech University on horticultural therapy for military veterans. The kits were designed to be conducted from the comfort of ones home with the use of an online video.
Participants took a short online survey before conducting the horticultural therapy kit and then completed another online survey upon completing the kit. The kits provided access to instructions as well as a video walking through setup. Participants of this research study with horticultural therapy kits were military veterans or active military located in Lubbock or the surrounding areas.
Thank you for your interest! This research project has concluded, and the horticulture therapy kits are no longer being offered for sale. If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with Dr. Alicia Thomas.
