About Me
Jerry B. Black is a Visiting Professor at Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine and is an Emeitus Professor and Wagonhound Land and Livestock Chair in Equine Sciences at Colorado State University. He was raised in west Texas and eastern New Mexico on a family cattle and wheat farming operation. He attended Texas Tech as a pre-veterinary medicine student for 3 years before transferring to Colorado State University to complete his veterinary degree. Upon graduation he began his clinical practice career in northern California. In 1973 he co-founded Pioneer Equine Hospital in Oakdale, CA.
Instruction
His practice interest for over 45 years have included equine reproduction, musculoskeletal disease, surgery, and sports medicine in performance horses.
Research
His areas of teaching and research interests include equine musculoskeletal disease, equine welfare, equine industry issues and animal/human interaction. Dr. Black has a passion for mentoring students as they prepare for their careers in veterinary medicine.
