Hi, my name is Jaylen Adams and I am currently pursuing my bachelors in animal science with a concentration in companion animals at Texas Tech University. Post graduation I hope to go to veterinary school and eventually open my own small animal practice. Being a veterinarian has been my dream job since I was a little girl and being able to work with the dogs at the Canine Olfaction Lab is a great opportunity that I sincerely enjoy and that is helping me on my journey to make that dream a reality. I am also a proud mom to my two four-legged children, my dog Theo who is a chihuahua/terrier mix and my kitten Finn who is an orange tabby.

student keleigh

Keleigh Collinsworth is a senior Animal Science major with a concentration in companion animals and veterinary medicine. Keleigh graduated with her Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. Her current involvement in the lab is exploring canine auditory preferences. In her spare time, Keleigh enjoys working as a veterinary technician at a local animal hospital. She also enjoys spending quality time with her friends and going on adventures with her dogs, Rick & Morty. Her long-term goal is to graduate from veterinary school and to practice medicine alongside her father back home in Gun Barrel City, Texas.

Shivani bio

Shivani Dalal is a third-year student at Texas Tech University. Her main interests lie in the medical field, as her goal is to attend medical school upon graduation. She enjoys majoring in cell and molecular biology, but has sincerely found a sense of excitement in working with dogs that could not have been anticipated. She is eager to keep learning about the many components of research and its ongoing benefits while working in this lab and hopefully improve the quality of life for many dogs in her community.

Tatjana has been a member of the lab since spring 2017. She is from San Antonio and is studying Microbiology at Texas Tech University. Working at the Canine Olfaction Lab has been a valuable learning experience for her. By studying the behaviors of dogs, she has expanded her knowledge of how they function and continually gains respect for their capabilities. She plans on continuing to learn about dog's olfactory capabilities and how their relations with humans affect their behaviors.

Armando Mendez is a third-year student majoring in Microbiology at Texas Tech University. The world of microbes has always fascinated him as he plans to attend medical school or attend graduate school to pursue his Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology. However, he has also emphasized his love for animals, especially dogs, by working alongside shelter dogs at the Canine Olfaction Lab. He is excited to expand his knowledge in this area of research and he can't wait to see what else he learns about man's best friend.

Annie Steffy is a senior at Texas Tech studying Animal Science with a concentration of study in equine production. Although she has a strong passion for horses, she has been around dogs her entire life and has a soft spot for them as well. Annie also works at The Haven Animal Care Shelter where she helps coordinate with the lab. Annie is also a certified therapeutic riding instructor. Her plans for the future are to continue academic studies and pursue employment in the animal industry, especially where she can continue to learn and be involved in animal rehabilitation.

 Alumni

 Audrey research assistant

Audrey Tedore is a freshman from Bellaire, TX. Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor's in animal science with the desire to attend vet school. Audrey's love for animals was largely developed through her experience with horses. She rode competitively in the hunter-jumper discipline throughout her junior high and high school years. She volunteers at K-9 Angels Rescue in Houston whenever she is in town, and she has a consistent following of neighborhood families whom she pet-sits for. She especially enjoys getting to look after the newborn puppies that one of the families periodically foster. In addition to research with the Canine Olfaction Lab, Audrey is involved in High Riders, a women's spirit organization supporting women's athletics, and the Pre-Vet Society at Texas Tech. In her free time, she likes to swim and spend time with her friends and triplet brothers, who also attend Texas Tech.

Priscilla Bio

Priscilla Rubio: I am a Junior majoring in Biology. My goal is to get into veterinary school, and I'd like to specialize in small animals. I have had a passion for medicine and animals since I was a little girl and I never outgrew that dream. Interestingly enough, I was bit by my Cocker Spaniel dog on my 3rd birthday, yet my love for dogs continually grew throughout the years. I have recently acquired a great interest in the research of dog behavior and socialization.

picture Jody

Jody Pfeuffer is a junior from Christoval, Texas. She is currently working towards her Bachelors in animal science with plans to attend medical or dental school. Outside of the classroom, Jody is actively involved in the horse show circuit. She trains and rides horses in the Stock Horse of Texas and the American Quarter Horse Association. Recently, she was chosen as an assistant for the Masked Rider program. As a research assistant in the Canine Olfaction Lab, Jody feels she has gained a much deeper understanding of the research process, as well as exposure to the many different canine research areas.
