Red Raider Orientation
Resources for Parents & Guests

Welcome!!

As a parent or family member of a newly admitted Red Raider, you are invited to attend Red Raider Orientation (RRO). Research has shown that the more parents are involved, the more likely it is a student will remain enrolled and persist to graduation. Parent involvement at Texas Tech is encouraged!

During RRO, you will learn about the programs and services offered at Texas Tech University and the Whitacre College of Engineering (WCOE). The team at the Engineering Opportunities Center (Home Base) will share helpful tips and next steps for your student’s academic journey. You will have the opportunity to meet your student’s major advisor and hear from experts within the Whitacre College.

1. Join The Red Raider Family Network

  • Submit an electronic FERPA waiver through the Red Raider Family Network to request authorized access to your student’s educational records.
  • Join the Engineering Community to connect with other family members and receive updates about student life and events at the Whitacre College.

2. Complete The Engineering Parent Pre-Survey

  • We want your RRO experience to feel personal and talk about what matters to you! Take a minute to fill out the Parent Pre-Survey and let us know what you’re curious about. You can also join the Engineering Parent email list to stay in the loop and receive communications about what you’ve learned at RRO.

3. Ask Your Student To Double Check Important Items

  • Students should tend to any active Holds listed in RaiderConnect. Holds may require submitting documents/information for Housing, Student Business Services, Financial Aid, or Student Health Services.
  • Did your student earn AP credit in High School? If yes, they need to request scores from College Board to be sent electronically to Texas Tech at transcripts@ttu.edu.
  • Did your student earn Dual Credit in High School? If yes, they need to submit a final college transcript for advising purposes as some college credits may impact course selections at Texas Tech. Transcripts should be sent to Box 45005, Lubbock, TX 79409 or through an electronic transcript service totranscripts@ttu.edu.
  • Has a transcript with Final High School GPA & Grades been submitted to Texas Tech? Final high school gpa & grades may impact admission decisions into Whitacre College.
Transcripts should be sent to Box 45005, Lubbock, TX 79409 or through an electronic transcript service totranscripts@ttu.edu.

  • Is your student TSI compliant and have these scores been submitted to Texas Tech? Determine your students TSI Status: Students entering Texas Tech as new first-year students or as new transfer students must demonstrate college readiness.
  • Did your student complete Texas Tech placement exams? The Math Placement Exam is required to determine MATH 1451 (Calculus I) readiness. Any student required to take CHEM 1307 (Principles of Chemistry I) must take the Texas Tech University Chemistry Placement Exam to determine chemistry readiness.

4. Videos For Student Focused Group Advising & Registration

  • Your student will have the opportunity to register for courses, amongst their peers, during Group Registration. Although parents will not attend group registration, rest assured that your student’s major advisor will be on-site to provide course recommendations and help guide your student when navigating Texas Tech’s registration portal.
  • Learn how your student will navigate DegreeWorks to verify if their transfer credit(s) were accepted by Texas Tech.
  • You can become familiar with Schedule Builder and how your student can use it for course planning.
