Red Raider Orientation

Welcome!!

As a newly admitted Red Raider, you are invited to attend Red Raider Orientation (RRO). During RRO, you will learn about the programs and services offered at Texas Tech University and Whitacre College of Engineering (WCOE). The team at the Engineering Opportunities Center (Home Base) will share helpful tips and next steps for your academic journey, and you will have the opportunity to select courses and participate in student focused group advising with your major advisor.

1. Complete Online Modules

  • All incoming, undergraduate students are required to complete online modules to learn about the academic/social expectations of Red Raiders, both in and out of the classroom, as well as other helpful information about succeeding at Texas Tech. These modules can be done at your own pace and will take about 60-90 minutes to complete. Your progress is automatically saved, and you can return to your modules at any time if you need to take a break. Online modules must be completed prior to attending the group advising and registration session.

2. Send AP/Dual Credit Transcripts To Texas Tech, If Applicable

  • We recommend that you submit your final high school/college transcript and AP scores in advance for advising purposes as some high school/college credits and AP scores may impact course selections at Texas Tech.
  • Official Transcripts should be sent to Box 45005, Lubbock, TX 79409 or through an electronic transcript service to transcripts@ttu.edu.

3. Complete Placement Exams Required As A Whitacre College Student

  • Determine Your TSI Status: Students entering Texas Tech as new first-year students or as new transfer students must demonstrate college readiness.
  • Any student required to take CHEM 1307 (Principles of Chemistry I) must take the Texas Tech University Chemistry Placement Exam to determine chemistry readiness.

4. Prepare For Student Focused Group Advising and Registration

  • Familiarize yourself with Schedule Builder and how it can be used for course planning.
  • Familiarize yourself with RaiderLink by watching this video explaining how to Register for Class.
  • All incoming students are required to attend group advising and registration at RRO. During this time, you will meet your major advisor from Whitacre College, who will help you and your peers register for classes.

5. Additional Items To Complete or Bring With You

  • Turn-in any documents/information for Housing, Student Business Services, Financial Aid, or Student Health Services
  • Assign or approve an electronic FERPA waiver through the Red Raider Family Network to authorize access to your educational records for your parent, guardian, spouse, or trusted familial support.
