Jennifer K. Robertson

Research Interests: Middle English poetry, Medieval medicine, English Literature from the 10th to 17th centuries, including Beowulf, the Gawain poet, Chaucer, and Shakespeare.

I am a doctoral candidate with interdisciplinary certificates in Book History & Digital Humanities and in Medieval & Renaissance Studies. My research interests revolve around discursive relations between medieval medical writings and Middle English poetry.

I was awarded a Fulbright Grant in 2022 and spent the 2022-2023 academic year in residence at Universitetet i Bergen, Norway, researching global intersections of literary and scientific writings for my dissertation, “Cleanness and Medicine in the Global Middle Ages: Diffusing Medieval Science through Narrative.” In 2021, I attended the prestigious London International Palaeography Summer School at the University of London. My interdisciplinary research in English literature incorporates the history of medicine with literary analysis, an idea that continues to win funding for my dissertation work beyond the Fulbright Grant with the Allan L. Carter and Olga Meloy Carter Memorial Scholarship, the Helen DeVitt Jones Graduate Fellowship, and a Texas Tech University Graduate School Doctoral Dissertation Completion Fellowship, which will carry me through the dissertation phase and to my doctoral graduation in Summer of 2024.
