Event to Celebrate Open Access Week

In celebration of international Open Access Week Oct. 18-24, Texas Tech University Libraries will host an informative event Oct. 21 featuring presentations on “Scholarly Communications” from a panel of writers, editors and researchers, followed by a moderated round-table discussion. Presenters include Ms. Cynthia Henry, Dr. Jeremy Short, Dr. Brian Still and Dr. Derrick Tate.

The presentations will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 309 at the Library and is open to students, faculty and staff; refreshments will be served.

Open Access Week presents an opportunity to broaden awareness and understanding of open access to research, including access to policies from all types of research funders, within the international higher education community and the general public.

“Open Access to publicly funded research is important in the building of a knowledge base. How researchers communicate and share scholarly pursuits correlates with what impact they have in that field,” said Shelley Barba, event organizer and assistant librarian. “The Open Access Movement strives to make great ideas available to as many thinkers as possible so they, in turn, can continue the conversation.”
