VIII. Use of Non-Pedestrian Devices

A. Skates and Skateboards

On the campus of Texas Tech (as defined in Section V.C.1 of these regulations):

  1. No person may skate or use a skateboard:
      1. on or in any University building, structure, stairway, elevated sidewalk, access ramp, step, retaining wall, handrail, mall, bench, fountain area or other architectural element;
      2. on or in planting areas, grass areas or seeded areas;
      3. on streets open for vehicular traffic;
      4. where prohibited by sign, by police officer, or where otherwise prohibited by law; or,
      5. in a manner that is incompatible with the flow of vehicular or pedestrian traffic.
  1. No person may use a skateboard in such a way that it is:
      1. not under the control of the user, or
      2. operated in an unsafe manner.
  1. No person who is skating or using a skateboard may fail to yield the right-of-way to:
      1. a pedestrian;
      2. a bicyclist;
      3. a motor vehicle; or
      4. a wheelchair or other device designed for the transport of persons with disabilities.

Pursuant to Section 51.202, Texas Education Code, a person who violates any provision of this regulation is guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction is punishable by a fine of not more than $200.
