General Standing Committees

The General Standing Committees were created to have a student representative on each appointed committee that deals with important decisions facing the students of Texas Tech. All committees are administration based and are chaired by administrators. Meetings are during the week and take place during normal Texas Tech business hours. Some committees meet once per semester and others will meet monthly.

ADA/504 Compliance

2 Students: 1 undergraduate, 1 graduate

Duty: Reviews existing facilities, plans, programs, services, and activities with regard to compliance with ADA/504. Makes recommendations for the improvement or establishment of disability access to facilities, services or programs. Assist in the coordination of effort design to promote understanding and awareness about disability access and compliance for members of the Texas Tech communities.

This committee meets once per semester.

Bookstore Advisory

3 Students: any mixture

Duty: Responsible for studying the operation of the University Bookstore with reference to the manner in which it is meeting the needs of student and faculty. Communication with the Academic Affairs Committee in the Student Senate on what is needed in matter of supplies, resources or prices. Also communication with the Presidential Spirit Committee on what Tech merchandise would be stocked and what spirit accessories are needed.

This committee meets 4 times a year.

Code of Student Conduct

3 Students: 2 full-time undergraduates, 1 full-time graduate

Duty: Conduct annual review of the Code of Student Conduct ad make recommendations regarding the Code of Student Conduct. Review other guidelines and operating procedures emanating from student organizations or administrative units with responsibilities for student affairs. Review regulations contained in other official University publication, which affect the conduct of the student and make recommendations to the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

This committee meets approximately 3 times first semester and 5 times second semester.

Convocation

2 Students: 1 full-time undergraduate, 1 full-time graduate

Duty: Assists in planning the all-University commencement exercise. Counsel with the Provost regarding the selection of a commencement speaker. Must attend commencement exercises in the fall, spring, and summer.

This committee meets once or twice a semester.

Enrollment Management Council

4 Students: 2 full-time undergraduates, 2 full-time undergraduates

Duty: Serves as an advisory tot eh Vice President for Enrollment Management. The council makes recommendations to the President, Provost, Dean of Graduate School and Vice President for Enrollment Management regarding policies, programs, and procedures that influence undergraduate, graduate, international, and minority student recruitment and retention.

This committee meets once a month for the academic year.

International Affairs

4 Students: 1 full-time undergraduate, 1 full-time graduate, 1 student senator, and 1 international student

Duty: Serves as an advisory board and assist in developing and recommending policies for Texas Tech University and the Office of International Affairs.

This committee is predicted to meet at least 3 times a semester.

Library

4 Students: 2 full-time undergraduates, 2 full-time graduates

Duty: Facilitates communications between the library, faculty, staff and student users. Serves as the sounding board for the library to try out ideas, plans for the future, proposed policies and goals. Advises the Provost and Dean of the Libraries on matters pertaining to the general policies affecting the University Library.

This committee meets twice a semester.

Masked Rider

2 Students: 2 full-time undergraduates

Duty: Help select the Masked Rider for the upcoming year. Works with other members of the committee on any problems that arise during the year.

This committee meets the first Thursday of every month.

Parking Violation Policies

1 Student

Duty: Recommends policies relating to parking on university property.

This committee meets once a month.

Parking Violation Appeals

1 Student

Duty: Reviews decision of the Traffic and Parking Coordinator when there is a significant dispute over facts or major extenuating circumstances and reviews parking ticket appeals.

This committee meets once a month through mail.

Title IX

1 Full-time undergraduate student

Duty: Helps enforce the Code of Student Conduct section on sexual harassment; helps to increase awareness to faculty, staff, and students.

Student Financial Aid & Scholarship

5 Students

Duty: Serves as an advisory group on scholarship and financial aid matters. Works on new scholarships for all students and makes students aware of the scholarships that are available.

Student Publications

6 Students

Duty: Responsible for advising the Vice President of Student Affairs and Director of Student Media on matters relating to student publications. Also helps choose the editors for the various student publications (University Daily, La Ventana).

This committee meets 4 times a year.

Teaching, Learning, & Technology

1 Full-time undergraduate student

Duty: Responsible for serving as advisors to the director and associate director of the TLTC regarding the programming and services that the center proves for the faculty. See also www.tltc.ttu.edu

University Center Advisory Board

5 Students: 2 Full-time students, 1 member of the Freshman Council, 1 Graduate Senator, and 1 Student Senator At-Large

Duty: Charged with the planning, growth and direction of the University Center.

This committee meets 3 times a semester.

University Discipline

4 Full-time undergraduate students

Duty: Empowered to conduct disciplinary hearing on student or registered student organization cases in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct.

This committee meets on an as needed basis.

University Discipline Appeals

3 Full-time undergraduate students

Duty: Empowered to review discipline cases presented to it by the student or registered student organization making an appeal in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct
