Why CASNR?
With so many colleges and universities to choose from, how do you know Texas Tech and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources is the right place for you? These are just a few of the things that set us apart from other institutions.
Faculty Advising
Faculty members perform a variety of roles - teaching, advising, research, and public
service - and have been recognized at local, state, national, and international levels
for their excellence. The faculty is regarded as being among the nation's best in
agricultural and natural resources management. Our 13-to-1 student to teacher ratio
plus the College's "open-door policy" makes faculty members easily accessible. Personalized
instruction and attention to students is our standard. A recent university survey
ranked our faculty first in almost every category of student satisfaction with regard
to instruction and advisement.
Scholarships
CASNR maintains one of the largest scholarship programs among the colleges at Texas
Tech. Typically, one of every three of our students receives a scholarship. On average
students in CASNR earn scholarships totaling $1.3 million. Visit our Scholarship page to learn more.
Internships
Internships are a great way to get out-of-the-classroom experience, while students
are still pursuing their education. Opportunities are available to intern in the agricultural
industry, or with state and federal agencies. CASNR students can also participate
in an internship with a state or federal legislator through the CASNR Government Internship Program.
Career Services
Students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources are well educated
individuals who excel both in and out of the classroom. Agricultural companies, state
and federal legislators and agencies, as well as international organizations compete
for our students, offering internships and full-time employment. We work closely with
University Career Services to ensure our graduates are prepared to enter the workforce. Career Services helps
with resume critiques, mock interviews, etiquette and many other things to prepare
them for a career in ag sciences and natural resources.
Undergraduate Research Program
As a premier program of its kind in agricultural studies, the undergraduate research
program offers students like you a chance to gain experience in applied research as
an undergraduate. It includes a two-course series that allows students to work closely
with faculty mentors in organizing, planning and conducting their own research in
a field of their interest. Competitive grants are available, and students participate
in a poster presentation and awards program.
