Jimmy Johnson joined the Huckabee College of Architecture in the Fall Semester of 2022 as a part-time Instructor. He is a founding partner of WCA Design Studio, LLC., in Lubbock, Texas. Prior to the Fall Semester of 2025, he left this role to join the Huckabee College of Architecture to pursue a full-time appointment. He has maintained multiple leadership roles in various firms throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and most recently as a Senior Project Architect and Architect of Record for WCA Design Studio. He has a deep practical expertise in building design, primarily focusing on Design Development, Construction Documentation, Construction Administration, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control. He has an expert level in technical skills, managing multiple types of computer systems including Autodesk and Microsoft Software.
He is currently licensed in the states of Texas and Florida to professionally practice architecture, is an N.C.A.R.B. certificate holder, and a former member of the American Institute of Architects.
Jimmy attained a Master of Architecture Degree from Texas Tech University College of Architecture in May of 1999. He is passionate about architecture and has developed innovative procedures to assist in the presentation, production, and management of buildings using the Building Information Model. Jimmy owned a successful design and construction business from February 1991 to April 1999 while working toward his Master of Architecture. This field work was paramount in his current accomplishments. He is dedicated to the field of architecture and has made it his life’s journey to bring buildings to life in new and creative ways. He is an effective leader and manager of both staff and projects and strives to build strong relationships with people.
During his professional career, Jimmy has coined a process of developing buildings at a high level of accuracy and speed all while integrating digital information management through the use of Building Information Modeling. This process seeks to catalog and organize information within the BIM platform using external database connectors which enhance the software’s capabilities all while allowing information to flow back to the computer model to balance the final output of drawings and construction specification information documentation. While he maintains an extreme fervor for the design and production of good buildings, he has found a deep love for teaching architecture to help build the profession in the 21st century and beyond.
Jimmy possesses both an extreme passion and extensive education and knowledge of 3D modeling and architectural design. This has become his preferred method of design development. While CG Modeling is one of his strongest assets, he still maintains a love for classic pencil & paper sketching in design. Jimmy maintains a strong belief that buildings come to life from the mind through the hand, no matter which tool is embraced. Through his in-depth education and experience, he will be paramount to the enhancement of the future of architecture.
