This 15-hour graduate certificate allows current Texas Tech University graduate students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and skills related to developing a mixed methods research, grant, or program evaluation proposal and producing publishable mixed methods studies. The certificate is also for working professionals who wish to learn about mixed methods research and its application in the social and behavioral sciences.

About This Certificate
The Mixed Methods Research Certificate program is a perfect way to highlight your skills in this growing area of methodology!
Mixed methods research has been gaining recognition as an important way to provide both depth and breadth as well as contextual quality in many areas of applied research, including social and behavioral sciences. This certificate program provides students with opportunities to hone your skills and gain experience in mixed methodology by putting together a variety of courses in quantitative and qualitative research methods that can be individualized according to your needs and interests.
Required Courses
- The following courses are required, but may be applied to the certificate if you took them prior to admission to the program.
EPSY 6379: Foundations of Educational Research
This course provides a foundational overview of education research methods. It helps students become critical consumers and producers of educational research, including methods of obtaining, processing, interpreting, and using educational data.
EPSY 6320: Mixed Methods Research
This course provides an overview of mixed methods research, including how to design and conduct empirical studies using mixed methods research approaches, as well as ways to prepare mixed methods studies for presentation or publication.
Electives
Select one or two of the following Measurement and Statistics courses and one or two Qualitative Research courses
- If approved, advanced research, measurement, evaluation, and statistics courses not listed here may be used to satisfy program requirements.
EPSY 5381: Intermediate Statistics
This course provides theoretical knowledge and applicable practice of topics such as multiple regression, analysis of variance and covariance, multiple comparison tests, and additional non-parametric tests.
EPSY 6302: Survey Research in Education
TThis course covers the design and implementation of survey methodology in educational settings. It includes topics such as sampling techniques, questionnaire design, data analysis, and strategies for disseminating findings to a variety of audiences.
EPSY 6303: Educational Measurement
This course provides an overview of psychometric theory as applied to educational research, including test and instrument development as well as the use of standardized instruments.
EPSY 5382: Qualitative Research in Education
This course provides an overview of qualitative research in education. It includes theoretical perspectives that inform qualitative research, relevant issues related to qualitative research design, and methodological criteria for conducting qualitative research studies.
EPSY 6305: Qualitative Data Analysis in Education
This course covers methods used in the analysis of data gathered through qualitative research methods, and provides practical application of qualitative research methodology through exploration of ways to report qualitative research findings.
EPSY 6307: Case Study Research in Education
This course provides an overview of design methods, issues, and applications of case study research in education.
