FAQs

Q: Where are the Graduation Receptions held?

Our receptions will be held in the College of Education basement. We plan to have several “stations” where you can pick up cords or medallions, take photos, etc… Light refreshments will be served at both receptions.

Parking is on first-come, first served basis.

Q: How many guests may I invite?

Feel free to invite as many guests as you like. For our Graduation Receptions, our motto is “The more the merrier!”

Q: What should I wear?

We encourage all graduates to wear full regalia for photo opportunities. Business casual is recommended under your regalia.

Q: What about my cap?

Mortar boards and tams are optional for the reception but are required at TTU Commencement Ceremonies.

Q: What if I am unable to attend?

We carefully plan our receptions so that they will be as convenient as possible for all that wish to attend. However, no schedule will be able to accommodate everyone. If you are unable to attend the reception, please contact lauren.brownell@ttu.edu.

Q: Where will I sit?

Due to the nature of these receptions and open house/come-and-go atmosphere, there will be minimal seating options and those are recommended for our more mature or disabled guests.

Q: When will I be able to get into the College of Education basement prior to the reception?

The doors will open promptly at the scheduled time for the reception.

Q: What faculty will be available to take pictures with?

Undergraduates: All site coordinators will be invited to attend the reception along with Teacher Education Department faculty and staff. We encourage you to follow up with your site coordinator directly to ensure they are planning to attend.

Graduate Students: All graduate faculty will be invited to attend the reception. We encourage you to follow up with your faculty directly to ensure they are planning to attend.

Q: What do the cords' colors and medallions represent?

Undergraduates receive a set of tri-colored cords: red and black representing Texas Tech's colors and a baby blue cord that is the academic color assigned to the field of education.

Graduate students receive a medallion corresponding to their level of degree attainment: silver for master's and gold for doctoral on a baby blue ribbon.

Q: How do I get my diploma?

Graduate students will receive their diplomas via mail from the Texas Tech Graduate School 6-8 weeks after commencement.

Undergraduates will be able to pick up their diplomas at the College of Education reception.
