Jared Lau comes to the counselor education program at Texas Tech University after over a decade at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and prior to UNLV at Fresno State University in Fresno California. Jared’s scholarship is largely defined as Ecological and Multicultural Counseling and Development. More specifically, Jared’s research focuses on international students and counselor training, antiracism and counselor’s use-of-self, counseling training environment research and assessment, and assessment/instrument development approaches in counseling research. In all cases, his scholarships strives to be applicable and relevant in both domestic and international contexts.

Jared’s scholarship can be found in professional top tier journals such as Counselor Education and Supervision, Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, Journal of Humanistic Counseling, The Family Journal, International Journal for the Advancement of Counseling, Journal of Mental Health Counseling, Community College Review, and Community College Journal of Research and Practice.

Jared is a former President of the Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (WACES), Member of the Governing Council for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) and is the 2023 recipient of the ACES Locke-Paisley Outstanding Mentor Award. Jared is currently the Secretary for the ACA division Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ) and is an editorial board member for the Journal of LGBTQ Issues in Counseling. He is a Nationally Certified Counselor and a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Nevada and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina. His previous clinical experiences include university counseling centers, career centers, group practice, community agencies, and being a 9th grade high school counselor. Jared loves the water, sports, music, and spending time with family and friends.
