First Year Involvement

Currently, there are three opportunities for new students to be involved with the Student Government Association: First Year Council, First Year Leadership Association, & Student Committee Representative. Please see descriptions below.

First Year Council:

Up to thirty (30) first year students can be selected to serve on First Year Council and work closely with Student Senate. First Year Council members must be enrolled in at least twelve (12) semester hours and have completed no more than thirty (30) hours with at least a 2.5 GPA from high school at the time of filing, and/or have graduated from high school in the year which they are running. Members may serve no more than one term and must maintain a 2.5 GPA while in office.

First Year Leadership Association:

Student Government Association selects incoming students to work side by side with the Executive Officers and staff. These students assist with various duties and receive first hand experience with how the Student Government Association office operates. The internships will take place throughout the academic year.

Student Committee Representative:

Students will serve with faculty and staff to determine the various student service fees and represent the student interest on various University Committees.
