Unlike other awards of the DLA, such as Design Awards and the Distinguished Alumnus, the Kleinschmidt Award does not have to go to an alumnus(a) of the Huckabee College. The Kleinschmidt Award is a way to honor those whose teaching, contributions, support, friendship and/or patronage have advanced the cause of architectural education at Texas Tech. Put another way, the Kleinschmidt awardee must have enhanced the strength (financial or otherwise) of the College, boosted the spirit of the College, or somehow perpetuated the College's architectural legacy. Anyone, from alumni, to faculty or staff, to donors, to special friends can and should be considered for the honor.

In assembling a nomination submittal, it is important to note that nominees must demonstrate their significant contributions to the Texas Tech Huckabee College of Architecture by meeting all of the following criteria:

  1. Nominee must be an individual, firm or organization that has exhibited extraordinary passion for advancing the goals of the Texas Tech University Huckabee College of Architecture.
  2. Nominee must have made significant and lasting contributions to the College through service; teaching; leadership; gifts; or other unique means.
  3. Nominee must be of such integrity, stature, and demonstrated ability that the faculty, staff, students, and alumni will take pride in, and be inspired by, their recognition.

There is no automatic carry-over of submissions from year-to-year. For an unsuccessful nominee to be reconsidered in following years, they must resubmit all nomination materials, even if those materials are unchanged from the previous year.

These Guidelines are presented in hopes that they will help all nominees and nominators better understand the factors involved in the solicitation, evaluation, and selection of the Kleinschmidt Award. Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions page for further guidance.
