Cynthia Sturkie is a Part-Time Instructor in the Non-Traditional Deaf Education Program at Texas Tech University. She is also an adjunct professor and program director in the Amarillo College Interpreter Training Program. She has taught school and served as the director of the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf in Amarillo. She was Regional Elementary Teacher of the Year and was awarded the Christa McCauliffe fellowship for elementary education in the state of Texas. Her specific areas of interest are communication disorders - brain and language as it impacts the language acquisition and literacy of deaf children.
Dr. Sturkie actively serves on the Board of Evaluations of Interpreters for the state of Texas. She does community interpreting as well as video relay interpreting. She supports the ongoing improvement in deaf education by serving on the Peer Review of deaf education programs around the state.
