2024-25 Update

The wheel of time keeps turning and we are at the precipice of another academic year! And it feels like time has really flown by! It seems like just yesterday that I assumed the role of director of the prestigious Scovell Business Leadership Program from Dr. Mayukh Dass! I remember clearly the excitement and nervousness I felt at this incredible honor. I had so many ideas about all of the new things we could try as we envisioned the second decade of this wonderful program! And our students were game for these changes, they stepped up BIG time!

In our second-decade refresh, we put greater emphasis on learning-by-doing. We introduced student-led units who created consulting partnerships with organizations such as the Lubbock County Expo Center, Alamo Equipment, Lubbock Parks and Recreation, Toddi Cocktails, and Wallay White Glove among others. Most of these partnerships will continue into 2024-25 as our students get their hands wet on project management and leading in the real world.

Additionally, we are looking to step up our mentoring game and are working on introducing a formal mentoring platform via TERN Mentoring, where our students have enhanced access to industry professionals! Finally, a group of our students visited Singapore and Malaysia over this past summer where we immersed ourselves in the local cultures and business environments. We visited companies such as FTI Consulting, BNY Mellon, Maybank, SBI Digital Asset Holdings, and heard from executives from Shell and Adobe. What a fantastic learning experience this proved!

As we look ahead to the 2024-25 academic year, we will welcome 22 new members who will join our 48 returning members. Our theme for this year is “Leading in the Age of AI” and we will explore the incredible opportunities that AI offers along with navigating the associated challenges. Our kickoff event was held on August 29th, 2024 and we will host T. Dupree Scovell, Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer, Woodbine Development Corporation.

It is my hope that the Scovell Business Leadership Program continues to prepare our students to step out into the world with confidence, ready to make a positive impact and be the leaders that our society needs!

On behalf of the program and the students, thank you for all your support, and we hope to see you in Lubbock in the near future!

Thank you!
