The Rawls College will offer its first Summer Business Institute – a certificate program for non-business majors – from June 5 to Aug. 8. The application for the program is open and 100 full-time Texas Tech students in good standing will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Rawls Summer Business Institute is an intensive 9-hour immersion certificate program designed to provide non-business majors an understanding of business principles. Students will take business courses and participate in career development workshops and seminars.

Students will learn the fundamentals of accounting, business law, business strategy, finance, information technology, management, marketing and operations management.

"This certificate will be useful for a student in any major, because understanding basic business principles is essential for success in any profession," Dennis Arnett, associate dean for undergraduate studies and external relations and John B. Malouf Professor of Marketing, said. "Everyone can benefit from knowing how to read a financial statement, write a marketing plan and being prepared to manage projects and employees."

Students are required to attend all of the courses and successfully complete the required coursework. Additionally, students are encouraged to attend career development activities, such as resume writing, interview techniques and business professionalism tips, through the Rawls College Career Management Center.

The classes in the program will run from 9 to 11:50 a.m. every weekday in the summer. The schedule is separated into three parts:
