The Jerry S. Rawls College of Business stands among top institutions nationwide in a ranking released Thursday by Poets and Quants. It lists the college 81st in this annual ranking of Best Undergraduate Business Schools.

"This ranking is the result of the hard work of our faculty and staff. They care about undergraduate education, and it shows," said Dennis Arnett, associate dean for undergraduate studies in the Rawls College of Business.

The Rawls College of Business offers undergraduate programs in all areas of business and is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the main accrediting organization for business schools.

Poets and Quants, a news website devoted to covering issues related to business schools, included only 88 schools in its ranking.

"It's important to note that there are nearly 700 undergraduate business programs accredited by the AACSB," wrote Poets and Quants editor-in-chief John Byrne in announcing the rankings last week. "The business schools singled out in our debut ranking are all extraordinary, each in the top tenth percentile of accredited schools."

The publication assessed business schools based on three key categories, each weighted equally:

Admissions Standards – Admissions standards includes business school acceptance rates, average SAT scores, and the percentage of students graduating in the top 10 percent of their high school class. The Rawls College ranked 86th in this category.

The College and Business School Experience – This segment is based on the publication's annual alumni survey, designed to assess academic and extracurricular aspects of the educational experience. The survey asked graduates many questions, including whether their program included a meaningful global immersion or a major consulting project, thesis or other feature integral to their professional development. Rawls College ranked 71st in this category.

Career Outcomes – Half of this section is determined by the percentage of students with full-time employment within three months of graduation. Annual salary, signing bonus average, and the percentage of students completing a business-related internship before graduation makes up the other half. Rawls College ranked 73rd in this category.

"I am especially proud of how we rank on the experience category. Our students have a lot of opportunities, including study abroad and service learning projects, and they are encouraged to take advantage of them. The ranking shows that our students find these activities useful," Arnett said.

In other recent publications, the Rawls College of Business ranked 80th in Bloomberg Businessweek's 2018 ranking of best business schools in the U.S., released in November, and 105th in its global ranking, released last week.
