McCoy's Building Supply to Sponsor Speaker Series on Family Business at Rawls College
The McCoy Family Speaker Series will allow the college to elevate its impact on the next generation of family business and entrepreneurs.

McCoy's Building Supply has made a $1 million gift to the Alderson & Griffin Center for Family Business & Entrepreneurship in Texas Tech University's Jerry S. Rawls College of Business.
The gift, in the form of an endowment, will create the McCoy Family Speaker Series and bring in prominent leaders in family business to provide insight on the various aspects of entrepreneurism and leadership. The speaker series will be open to the family business community involved at the center as well as current students.
“We are champions of family-owned businesses,” Brain McCoy. “With this speaker series, we hope to share with students what it means to be a privately held business along with the special challenges and opportunities that come with that. We are very proud to enhance our affiliation with Texas Tech and Rawls College with this gift.”
McCoy's Building Supply is a fourth-generation family business. Started by Frank McCoy in 1927 as McCoy Roofing Company in Galveston, Texas, the company evolved into McCoy's Building Supply and grew across Texas and beyond under the leadership and vision of Frank's son, Emmett McCoy, and later, by Emmett's children and grandchildren. Today, McCoy's Building Supply has 85 locations, two millwork facilities and three internal distribution centers within a three-state area.
Brian McCoy represents the third generation of the McCoy family business. He and each of his three siblings, Brenda McCoy Remme, Mike McCoy and Dennis McCoy (deceased), are all Texas Tech graduates. Brian served as the president and CEO of McCoy's Building Supply for more than 20 years before passing the role to his daughter Meagan McCoy Jones in 2022.
Brian, who now serves as the board chairman, attributes their success to the core values of their family and business, their commitment to serve employees and customers with care and relevance and their ongoing investment in the company and team.
“We are thrilled to have this level of support from the McCoy family for this special speaker series,” Rawls College Dean Margaret Williams said. “The original vision for the Alderson and Griffin Center included opportunities for entrepreneurs and family business owners to learn from experts and those with hands-on experience to enhance the success of their ventures. I am grateful to the McCoy family for making this vision a reality.”
The Alderson & Griffin Center for Family Business & Entrepreneurship – made possible by an endowment from two prominent entrepreneurial families, David and Lisa Alderson and Texas Tech Regent Mark Griffin and his wife Claudia – provides innovative networking opportunities, insightful educational forums and discussions and relevant academic programs and applied research.
“The center, housed in the Area of Management, has a mission to serve and engage with our community and provide value to practitioners,” Area of Management Coordinator Donald Kluemper said. “This incredible gift is invaluable in helping us to achieve that mission.
Partnerships built through the center with entrepreneurship programs, think tanks and incubators play a vital role in the ability of Rawls College to support existing family businesses and develop a new class of entrepreneurs who will form the family businesses of the future.
