About
Christopher (Chris) C. Winchester is an award-winning Assistant Professor of Management at Texas Tech University’s Rawls College of Business, where he teaches organizational behavior. His research focuses on theoretical development and the use of advanced mixed methods to examine the motives and consequences of being a performance outlier—ranging from strategic underperformers to star performers. Dr. Winchester’s work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Business Ethics, Oxford Bibliographies in Management, and The CASE Journal. This work has also been recognized with numerous honors, including the Most Innovative Paper Award and a Best Paper Designation from the Academy of Management’s Organizational Behavior Division (2024), as well as several competitive research grants.
A dedicated educator and contributor to the academic community, Winchester has received the Carlson PhD Teaching Award and the Dedication to Student Learning Award (2023), and was a finalist for The CASE Journal’s Best Teaching Case Award (2022). His service has also earned distinction: he was named Chair of the Academy of Management’s New Doctoral Student Consortium (2024), received multiple Best Reviewer Awards, and mentored the recipient of the 2024 Best ESG Thesis Award. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and both an M.B.A. and B.S. from the University of Nebraska.
Before entering academia, Winchester founded and operated one of Omaha’s largest wedding
planning and floral design businesses. He also worked as a freelance web and graphic
designer, marketing associate, and e-commerce professional, experience he continues
to draw on in his research and teaching. In his spare time, he enjoys freelance web
design, sand volleyball, and bird watching.
