Program Auditions

Dance (BA | BFA | Minors)

Students interested in declaring a Dance major or minor for the 2025-2026 academic year must be admitted to the Texas Tech and audition for their dance program of interest. Students may submit a virtual audition or attend the on-campus audition, Saturday, February 15, 2025.

This audition will also serve as a scholarship audition for prospective students auditioning for the dance major for  School of Theatre and Dance scholarships. To be considered for a departmental scholarship, applications should be submitted via this online form by January 31, 2025.  

 

Application and Audition Registration

Applying for acceptance into to the Dance Program is a two-step process:

  • Submit your application to Texas Tech University through www.ApplyTexas.org.
  • For those interested in auditioning for the dance major (BA/BFA), you will apply to the program through Acceptd. Create an account, select Texas Tech University School of Theatre & Dance, click to start an application for the desired degree program, and complete the application and all required items for your degree of interest. The dance major application requires no additional fee; however, an application fee is required for admissions to Texas Tech.
  • For those interested in auditioning for the dance minor, you will apply to the program through this online form. Complete and submit the form. The dance minor application requires no additional fee; however, an application fee is required for admissions to Texas Tech. 

 

Audition Requirements

BA/BFA Dance Major

  • Headshot (used for social media posts if accepted into the dance program)
  • Resume (limited to one page; includes current contact info, school info, dance training experience, performance experience, awards, or scholarships)
  • Statement of Purpose written composition of 2-3 pages that should address your interests in dance, reasons for pursuing the dance degree of your choice at Texas Tech and discuss your future goals in the dance profession. This composition should showcase competency in basic writing skills.
  • 1-minute original solo showcasing individual dance skills (those auditioning for the BA) or choreographic skills (those auditioning for the BFA). Any dance style is accepted.

Dance Minor

  • Included on the audition form: Dance experience, short statement of purpose written composition that should address your interests in dance, reasons for pursuing the dance minor at Texas Tech and discuss your future goals. This composition should showcase competency in basic writing skills.

Deadline to Apply

  • The registration deadline for Spring 2025 admission is October 18, 2024.
  • The registration deadline for Fall 2025 admission is January 31, 2025.
  • Though Fall 2025 enrollment is likely guaranteed if a student application is received after January 31st, the Dance faculty at the School of Theatre and Dance will continue to accept application submissions by virtual auditions through August 1, 2025.  

College Day

Monday, October 14, 2024 and Monday, February 17, 2025

High school students interested in pursuing theatre or dance in college are invited to spend a day in the life of a Texas Tech SOTD major! Visiting students will take and observe classes, meet faculty, receive information about our major and minor programs, and mingle with our current students. Students will also have the opportunity to take a guided tour of our facilities and view our beautiful campus.
