Theatre & Dance in the Community

The School of Theatre & Dance recognizes the need for community engagement that features after (and during)-school theatre/dance activities in under-served areas of Lubbock both on and off campus. Every semester, students from each program (B.A., B.F.A., M.A., M.F.A., Ph.D.) enroll in Theatre & Dance in the Community, a service-learning course that engages with community partners around Lubbock, incorporating theatre and dance activities into their curriculum. Graduate students serve as liaisons with agencies in Lubbock, determining the best course of action for the semester; they coordinate undergraduate teams who learn their responsibility to the world at-large. In other words, this course strives to make Lubbock our campus.

Past community partners include Guadalupe-Parkway Sommerville Centers, the Boys & Girls Club, Covenant Children's Hospital, the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research, Atkins Middle School, and several LISD elementary schools.
