Justin Santos

September 23, 2024

This fall, the School of Theatre & Dance welcomed one of our largest incoming classes ever. We met up with a few of these students to learn more about them and what excites them the most about their first semester at Texas Tech.

Kennedi Boren

KENNEDI BOREN, BFA Acting

When did you first get involved with theatre or dance?
I've been acting in TV and theatre for 10 years now. I originally started in NYC for the IMTA convention where I got my first agent and manager and have been working since. When I was younger, I performed at our local theatre called Plaza and absolutely loved it.

Now that you've spent some time in LBK, where do you like to eat?
INSOMNIA COOKIEEEE!!!

Trevin Copeland

TREVIN COPELAND, BFA Acting

What is a project you enjoyed working on the most?
When I was in Second Samuel, I met some of my favorite actors to date. I actually performed it here at Tech!

What are you most excited for this semester?
To make connections and learn more about the professional world of acting. I want to entertain people to the best of my abilities.

DAWSON CRAIG, MFA Performance & Pedagogy

What is the best production you ever saw?
The best production I've ever seen was the touring production of Les Miserables. It was such a talented cast, and the set was so incredible I can't properly describe it. It's something that just must be witnessed.

What are you most excited for this semester?
Bright Star. The cast is amazing, the director is amazing, and the music and choreography are stellar. I can't share much more than that, but it's shaping up to be an incredible show.

Margaret Gardizi

MARGARET GARDIZI, BA Theatre Arts

When did you first get involved with theatre or dance?
I got involved in theatre when I was in 5th grade. It was a part of an elective wheel where you got to try multiple various elective classes for 6-week periods, rather than being semester or whole year classes.

What is the best production you ever saw?
The best production I've ever seen was at UIL state in 2022 and it was a production of We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as Southwest Africa, From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1884–1915 by  Jackie Sibblies Drury. It was one of the first shows that made me feel so many various emotions and it was executed so incredibly well.

Mia Jacob

MIA JACOB, BFA Musical Theatre

What is the best production you ever seen?
The best production I ever saw is a challenging question to answer, but if I had to pick one it would be when I saw Wicked on Broadway when I was 13. It was the first Broadway show I had ever seen and it was a performance like no other. From then on, my dream is to be Elphaba on Broadway one day.

What is the project you enjoyed working on the most?
I am currently in the rehearsal process for TTU’s Bright Star where I will be playing Lucy! Only two weeks into this project is already a bit of a culture shock compared to any high school show production, but I would say I’m adapting quickly.

Gabriela Reyes

GABRIELA REYES, MFA Performance & Pedagogy

When did you first get involved with theatre or dance?
My first experience in Theatre was when I was in my first semester of my undergraduate at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and I was cast in the bilingual production of A Christmas Carol en la Frontera as Mrs. Cratchit. I completely fell in love with theatre.

What are you most excited for this semester?
I'm excited to continue working on The Ghost Project and see my peers perform on the TTU stage for the first time in Bright Star.

Justin Santos

JUSTIN SANTOS, MFA Performance & Pedagogy

What is the best production you ever saw?
The production that changed my brain chemistry the most was Everybody by Brandon Jacob Jenkins at FIU Theatre. It was just so beautifully put together. The movement and spontaneity really touched me.

Now that you've spent some time in LBK, where do you like to eat?
Texas ROADHOUSE! Everything is indeed bigger in Texas. Why are the steaks the size of my head!?

Solomon Williams

SOLOMON WILLIAMS, BFA Acting

When did you first get involved with theatre or dance?
My first involvement with theater and dance was probably my dad. My dad was always a theatrical person, singing show tunes around the house and reading stories to me and my sister from a young age. My first actual theater experience was watching him in James and the Giant Peach as one of the officers in when he was in college.

What are you most excited for this semester?
I'm really excited to work with everyone this semester. One of the reasons I chose Tech is because of the people.

Kyndahl Wiseman

KYNDAHL WISEMAN, BA Theatre

What is the best production you ever saw?
During my time in the arts, I have seen many productions, however I think the best I have seen thus far is Beetlejuice: The Musical

What are you most excited for this semester?
This semester, I am looking forward to meeting all sorts of new friends while working on productions! I also am looking forward to honing my photography skills!
