Blackboard Learn 9.1 Migration Clean-up Tasks

Below is a list of recommended potential clean-up tasks – the necessity of these tasks will, of course, depend on the types of content that exist in your CE8 course.

Migration Clean-up Tasks:

      • The Header and Footer feature has been removed in BB9. If you had text in the Header or Footer, you will likely see “ “ above that text in your new course. Click on the menu icon for that item, select Edit, and replace that text in the Name field with a title if appropriate.
      • Zip files (i.e. Presenter files): When adding zip files to the “files” area, be sure to create a new folder that will be specific to the contents of the zip file. Open the folder, then mouse over the “Upload” button at the top and select “Upload Package.” Blackboard will extract all files and place them in the folder you are in. For Presenter zip files, only unpackage one zip file per folder to avoid getting files overwritten and confusion on which file(s) to link.
      • The Learning Module tool in Bb9 does not always display content the same way that Bb8 does. Please verify that all files and links are displaying correctly. One fix is to have the file/link open in a new window.
      • The Web Links area in Bb8 is not necessary in Bb9. All web links in the course content work without the central location that was necessary in Bb8. Bb9 creates a course content area named Web Links that duplicate all weblinks in the course which are not tied to the rest of the web links in the course.
      • If you have the Syllabus linked in the CE8 Syllabus tool, the migration creates a Course Menu link called “Information” which becomes a Content Folder. Rename the link in the Course Menu to Syllabus. Then use the Build Content: File option to re-link the syllabus file.
      • Custom icons will not be migrated.
      • If you had a link to the eMail Tool in CE8, your migrated courses will show a link called Mail on the Course Menu, but it connects to the Messages tool – not the Send Email tool. You will need to rename the link to “Messages”.
      • Course migration brings over the formatting and color of the original to the best of its ability. If you want to change it to the color scheme recommended by TTU, click once on the little color wheel icon next to the Edit Mode button and choose “default”. The change is instant.
      • Goals – if you had entered learning objectives or student learning outcomes in the Goals Tool in CE8, there is not a corresponding Goals Tool button in the Menu. This tool is now called Alignments and appears when you view the assessment.
      • Remove all references to the old LMS Support webpages for instructors and students in the course. Then, add the TTU Student Help Link in the Course Menu using the Web Link option. Here's the link:
