“Europe through My Lens”

Photographs by Ashton Thornhill

On view through June 16, 2016

Ashton Thornhill taught photography at Texas Tech University for twenty-nine years. He studied with Ansel Adams, Cole Weston, W. Eugene Smith, Gene Richards, and Keith Carter, among others.

Grounded in black and white, silver gelatin photography, Ashton reluctantly embraced digital tools more than a decade ago. With the advances in digital image making, and eliminating the toxic chemicals and wasted water of the silver gelatin age, he now makes his photographs digitally and prints with the finest color inks and most stable papers available. Most of the photographs in this exhibit were shot while Ashton was teaching a class on photography at TTU's Center in Seville.

This exhibit made possible, in part, by a grant from The CH Foundation
