International Student Day at the Rec Center

On Tuesday, December 15, International Student Life partnered with the Rec Center to host an International Student Day at the Rec. Students had the chance to experience mini sessions of FitWell classes like yoga, HIIT, and zumba; climb the rockwall; learn archery; and play games of cornhole, pickleball, badminton and ping pong while in a safe, social-distancing environment. Our students were most excited by and interested in archery, as none had participated in archery before! Overall, the event was a great experience for all involved after the stress of finals and a semester of pandemic, and we are already planning for another partnership with the Rec in the spring semester!

International Student Food Pantry

On Tuesdays December 22, December 29, January 5 and January 12, International Student Life once again partnered with the Lubbock community to provide a fresh, homemade meal and food pantry to international students who need food resources while the Raider Red Food Pantry is closed. Items are dropped off by community members between 9:30-11:00 AM and then takeout containers are put together for students to pick up between 12-3 PM, while supplies last. Lubbock community volunteers cook up delicious, healthy, vegetarian and vegan friendly mains and sides, as well as desserts and fruit for students, and international students volunteers help our staff put together and distribute the food to their peers. Students can also "shop" the food pantry for items ranging from toiletries to microwave meals, granola bars to canned goods, rice to cereal, which is also provided by the community. We are very thankful to BSM for the generous use of their near-to-campus building and to the many Lubbockites who we rely on for the food donations! In this season, it has been a gift to have this opportunity to interact with students in need and let them know they are seen, remembered and cared for!
