K-12 Global Education Outreach (GEO) has built its reputation on providing interactive face-to-face programing for students and teachers across the South Plains since 1997. COVID-19 brought programming to an abrupt halt in early 2020, but this amazing team of dedicated educators refused to let a pandemic stand in their way. They promoted the idea of virtual programming to teachers in local school districts and were met with an overwhelming response. Working with OIA's graphic designer- Javier Lopez and Rawe Productions, the K-12 GEO team created instructional videos of their fall cultural programs as resources for Region 17 school districts. Then came the difficult part. Because the K-12 programs are “hands-on”, K-12 staff members needed to create individual activity kits to accompany the virtual programming for students. With the help of the OIA staff, K-12 GEO produced 5,415 cultural program kits- serving as many students at 60 schools across the south plains. These successful programs included El Dia de los Muertos, Weihnachtsfest, and Celebration of Light. K-12 GEO intends to offer virtual programming through the spring as well. We loved the Celebration of Light virtual field trip you provided for us. My students previously studied light energy in science and enjoyed learning about the celebrations in other countries! Huge success!! Thanks so much!
